Hook: Savannah isn’t anyone special. She works a standard job at a frankly, boring publishing company. She isn’t anything like her perfectionist fitness-guru sister. Or her ex who is now engaged to said sister. Least of all, is she anything like the publishing company’s newest perfectionist publisher, Will.
However, there is one small secret that Savannah has kept. Her manuscript. Savannah’s publishing company despises all fiction books, but one type more than any others- romance. So, when Savannah runs into a famous editor and begins talking about her secret romance manuscript, she is reasonably concerned that news of the manuscript could make it back to her boss…. which needless to say, would not look good for her. But the publisher actually seems interested! Could this finally be Savannah’s moment to step out of the corporate box?
But, of course, right when she starts to get excited, she trips during a staff meeting. And, she just might have been carrying her manuscript with her. The whole stack of papers fall and flutter all around the room. Savannah quickly picks the papers up, but not before one new publisher gets a good look at one of the very clearly romantic pages. You guessed it, Will. But, for some reason that escapes Savannah, he doesn’t say anything.
However, things continue to take turns for the worse when Savannah finds her beloved manuscript all marked up with foreign critiques! The mystery editor not only wrote all over her manuscript, but the edits make no sense. At least, that’s what Savannah thinks. Until, she hears back from the editor who expressed interest and hears some of the exact advice that the mystery editor gave her.
If Savannah still has any hope of publishing this manuscript, she has some issues to address. And as much as she hates to admit it, she might need the mystery editor’s help. With the upcoming deadline of the famous editor’s resignation, Savannah realizes she only has a few weeks to edit the whole manuscript- not a task for the weak. As Savannah races against time, she begins to notice a certain care and interest in this mystery editor. But, that will all disappear once the book is fully edited. Right?
My Review
Yay! Another good romance book! From the characters to the romance, this was a really sweet, personable book! However, I do have a few critiques. First, character development. I loved the characters, and they did have a decent amount of development and definitely had some moments during which they felt super personable. I loved the publishing company setting- this was definitely a fun atmosphere for me to hear about! To be honest however, the plot was not quite top-tier. The romance felt a little… haphazard almost? Like one moment the characters were first noticing each other and the next, confessing their love or something. There was some outside plot that was decent, but again, nothing world breaking. Finally, when it came to the ending and the writing, they were both fairly good. The ending had a good build up, but somehow felt unsatisfying. The writing was definitely similar. It certainly wasn’t bad, and had moments that were really good, but parts felt a bit cliche. So, overall I was pleasantly surprised with this book! From the characters to the setting, it was actually a really great book! However, the writing and ending felt just average, and the plot a bit less sophisticated.
Overall Book Rating: 7.4/10
