Blurb:
In 1946, Eva leaves behind the rubble of Berlin for the streets of New York City, stepping from the fiery aftermath of one war into another, far colder one, where power is more important than principles, and lies are more plentiful than the truth. Eva holds the key to a deadly secret: Project Bluebird -- a horrific experiment of the concentration camps, capable of tipping the balance of world power. Both the Americans and the Soviets want Bluebird, and it is something that neither should ever be allowed to possess.
But Eva hasn't come to America for secrets or power. She hasn't even come for a new life. She has come to America for one thing: justice. And the Nazi that has escaped its net.
My Review
Going Into It:
Going into this book I was sick 🤒. I was in bed and just wanted something to do. So, I grabbed the closest book I hadn’t read yet (this one) and started it!!
Characters:
Eva Gerst- Eva is about 18 years old. She immigrates to the USA after WWII. She is quiet, but LOVES to play the piano. She is also very protective of those she loves, and hates those who have hurt her.
Inge Von Emmerich- Inge is a German girl. Her family is Nazi, and she believes in them. She a near ‘perfect’ German daughter, except for her reckless streak. But she can be pushed too far and break…..
Jacob Katz- Jake is a Jewish boy who lives in New York. He goes to college, but also volunteers for a new immigrant support program. He is kind and caring, but does not like being lied to.
I LOVED the characters in this book. I kinda guessed the surprise connection between the characters, but I’m okay with that. I loved the contrast between characters, and there was a TON of AMAZING character development!! The side characters were also GREAT!!
Character Rating: 9.8/10
Setting:
This book takes place in Germany and New York City
Again, I LOVED the contrast between unique settings. One was dark and dangerous, and the other was full of new experiences and joy. I loved these settings!!
Setting Rating: 9.3/10
Plot:
AMAZING plot!! It wasn’t CRAZY fast paced, while still being entertaining. The book didn’t quite hook me from the start, but after the first few chapters, I started to LOVE it. The plot was constantly changing and you never knew what would happen next.
Plot Rating: 9.5/10
Writing:
In my opinion Sharon Cameron is SUCH an UNDERRATED author. There are so many great YA historical fiction authors, but I feel like Sharon Cameron usually isn’t on that list, when she deserves to be on the TOP of it!! She is entertaining and can make dark topics not drag down the whole book.
Writing Rating: 9.9/10
Ending:
I was WORRIED that this ending wouldn’t come together but, for the most part, it totally did!! There was one relationship the ended badly, and I was a little sad, but ended up kinda being okay with it. Overall the ending was pretty good!!
Ending Rating: 8.7/10
The Overall:
Overall, I loved this book and think it is absolutely underrated and AMAZING!! The characters and plot mixed together perfectly, the author did another AMAZING job, and there was fabulous character development.
Overall Book Rating: 9.6/10
I would strongly recommend this book

ChatGPT’s Opinion: Bluebird by Sharon Cameron is a historical novel set during World War II. It follows Ella, a young woman navigating extraordinary circumstances. The book explores themes like resilience, trauma, and human relationships during wartime, blending mystery and hope. Cameron’s writing is praised for its emotional depth, vivid atmosphere, and layered storytelling, making it a compelling read for fans of historical fiction.
(This is a CLASSIC reason of why to NEVER blindly trust ChatGPT. None of the main characters’ names are Ella. This book does, “explores themes like resilience, trauma, and human relationships during wartime, blending mystery and hope,” but the basics about ‘Ella’ are completely wrong.)
