Hook:

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans—except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay—no matter what the personal cost.

I would maybe recommend this book

Review: Okay, this book was really interesting. I was constantly HOOKED and wanted to know what was happening next. BUT, (this might just be a me problem), I feel like the pacing was WAY off (just like the last book). One minute we’re talking for many, many pages about a specific scene, then JUMP!! In, like, two pages it’s suddenly months later. I would have loved to have fewer jumps (even if that would have meant splitting the book into two separate books without as MASSIVE of jumps). Anyways, I still LOVED the characters and plot (just like the other Hunger Games books). The writing was great too. Also, WARNING!! If constant emotional breakdowns bore you, this might not be your book. If you love them though, and think they bring you closer to the character, this is DEFINITELY the book for you (personally, I don’t know what I think of them. I like a certain amount, but not too much). I feel like when it came to the ending, I liked the end result, but I just wish the book didn’t JUMP MULTIPLE YEARS right before getting to the ending. And the plot holes 😭!! There were SO many parts of the book I felt like weren’t fully wrapped up. Overall, I’m excited to read future Hunger Games books, and really did enjoy the content of this book, but it’s definitely not my favorite Hunger Games book because of ALL the jumps and plot holes.

Main Characters

  1. Katniss Everdeen- Katniss is the main character in this book. She is independent and fierce. She strives for her goals and is AMAZING with a bow and arrow. THOUGH, she tends to let her emotions take control of her. She’s from District 12.

  2. Peeta Mellark- Peeta is also from District 12. He is the baker’s son. He is strong and protective.

  3. Gale Hawthorne- Gale and Katniss have been friends for years. He’s great at using snares. He is more reserved, but still loyal, protective, and from District 12.

Character Rating: 9.6/10

Setting-

This book takes place in a country called Panem. It is North America, in the future, after the ocean water level has risen over part of the land. The continent now has 13 districts (plus a capital city), each of which has a different general “job.”

Setting Rating: 8.6/10
