My Review

Hook: Hugo is excited for this summer. For the first time in his life he has the opportunity to leave the UK for a train trip across the USA. Something he has never done before. And he doesn’t plan on going alone- his girlfriend, Margaret Campbell, booked the whole thing and plans on going with him. Until she breaks up with him out of the blue. He’s shocked. At least Margaret decides to give Hugo the tickets so he can still enjoy the trip. But when he tries to redeem them, he is told since the tickets are under Margaret Campbell’s name, someone with Margaret Campbell’s ID needs to be present anytime he gets on or off the train. So rather than reach back out to Margaret, Hugo makes a social media post asking if there are any other Margaret Campbells in the world who want to go on an adventure. And he finds one. Margaret, or Mae, Campbell. She lives in New York, and is ready for an adventure. So, she says yes.

My Opinion: This felt like a really average romance book, in my opinion. It was sweet, heartfelt and I loved the general idea of a train trip across the US. Hugo and Mae just felt a little distant and cliche to me. They did have depth and development, but it always felt forced to me. They each had unique interests and backstories which made them feel at least a bit more realistic. As far as the plot, there wasn’t much of one outside of the romance. Yes, Hugo and Mae were having their own personal issues to go through, but I still didn’t feel like the real PLOT expanded past the romance. The ending was fairly satisfying….. but nothing AMAZING.

Overall Book Rating: 6.1/10
