Hook: Ever since ‘North America’ became Panem, everything has changed. Now, it is separated into twelve districts plus the capital. Each district is required by law to send two teenagers- one girl and one boy- to fight for their lives for the Capitol’s entertainment. Katniss is unlucky enough to participate in the games this year. For her whole life she has been learning to survive- hunting to find food for her family, navigating a dangerous district, and working every day to try not to die. She honestly doesn’t think she has a shot. But somehow, she really does become a competitor. But, in order to win, that means everyone else, will need to die.

I would strongly recommend this book

Review: I finally understand why this book has been SO popular for SO many years. I’ve heard about this book for years and years but never read it. I’ve NEVER liked the idea of kids being forced to brutally kill each other in an arena. But…. I finally decided to read it (and I’m THRILLED I did!!). This book was about so much more than that!! The book was beautifully written, even though the topic can be dark. I loved the characters way more than I thought I would, especially Katniss. I really liked the plot too and how detailed it was. There were no slow or dull moments (DEFINITELY not). This book kept me up literal HOURS later at night than I thought I would stay up. I was SO tired the next morning but it was definitely worth it 😊. This book was amazing, and if you still haven’t read it (I understand not wanting to, but I certainly regret not reading it for so long), so I STRONGLY recommend you read it too.

Main Characters:

  1. Katniss Everdeen- Katniss is the main character of this book. She’s from District 12. She is strong, bold, and determined. She will do anything to protect the ones she loves, and is fiercely loyal. She’s also amazing at hunting with a bow and arrow.

  2. Peeta Mellark- Peeta is also from District 12. He is the baker’s son. He is strong and protective.

  3. Gale Hawthorne- Gale and Katniss have been friends for years. He is great at using snares. He is more reserved, but still loyal, protective, and from District 12.

    Character Rating: 9.9/10

Setting:

This book takes place in a country called Panem. It is North America, in the future, after the ocean water level has risen over part of the land. The continent now has 13 districts (plus a capital city), each of which has a different general “job.” The beginning of the book takes place in District 12.

Setting Rating: 9.7/10
