Hook: All of Katniss’s dreams seem to have come true. She survived The Hunger Games. And not only that, Peeta somehow survived too. But nothing is the way Katniss imagined. Both Gale and Peeta are keeping their distance. It also seems that Katniss might have started something, or accelerated something already happening. Some kind of rebellion that she doesn’t even fully understand. Katniss doesn’t understand what is happening, or what choices she should be making.

Overall Book Rating: 7.8/10

I would recommend this book

Review: Nice job, Suzanne Collins!! I LOVED the first Hunger Games book, and was REALLY hoping this wouldn’t be so much worse. It wasn’t!! The pacing was off in my opinion. A good amount of this book felt rushed to me (but who knows, maybe that’s just me). However, the writing and plot parts were AMAZING. I LOVED the characters. They had so much personality and depth. This book was described well, AND I REALLY wanted to know what actually happened at the end. And the ending!! I was planning on waiting to read the next Hunger Games book for a few weeks, but… well… I couldn’t after this ending!! (I may or may not have already started it…). Anyways, this was a GREAT book that I would recommend, but it wasn’t quite as great as Hunger Games because of its pacing.

Main Characters:

  1. Katniss Everdeen- Katniss is the main character in this book. She is independent and fierce. She strives for her goals and is AMAZING with a bow and arrow. She’s from District 12.

  2. Peeta Mellark- Peeta is also from District 12. He’s the baker’s son. He is strong and protective.

  3. Gale Hawthorne- Gale and Katniss have been friends for years. He is great at using snares. He is more reserved, but still loyal, protective, and from District 12.

Character Rating: 9.9/10

Setting:

This book takes place in a country called Panem. It’s North America, in the future, after the ocean water level has risen over part of the land. The continent now has 13 districts (plus a capital city), each of which has a different general “job.”

Setting Rating: 9.7/10
